What Causes Abdominal Bloating While On Docusate?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Nov 2017
Question: Can Docusate used for a long period of time cause clear mucous in the stools? Also concerned about intestinal gas - some bloating but no abdominal cramping. Periodic urgency is also an issue... scary!!

Brief Answer:
not really

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

there is no adequately documented side effect like that for docusate. Having mucus in the stool can sometimes be found in constipated patients. The irritable bowel syndrome (which is probably related to the intestinal gas and bloating) is also associated with increased mucus in some patients. Since you're having long-standing symptoms in the intestines and you're 75 years old I would suggest doing a colonoscopy to further investigate this issue. You should visit a gastroenterologist for that.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!

I've been having high blood pressure 156/88 - 172/90 for awhile now inspite of taking Lisinopril 30 mgs. This week hydrochlorothyiazide 25 mg was added. Does it matter if I take the diuretic in the a.m. and the Lisiniopril in the evening or should they both be taken at the same time?

Brief Answer:
You can take them both or separately

Detailed Answer:
We usually prescribe them together in the morning. There is no problem to take them as you suggested though. Just don't do the opposite, or you'll be running to the toilet all night!
Kindly follow the prescription of your treating doctor.

Kind Regards!
