What Causes A Taste Of Blood In The Mouth?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I have had a taste of blood in my mouth for the last couple of months. I 've just finished a double dose of lansoprazole for a month for GERD and larnygereal problems. I am creating a lot of extra mucous and when i spit it out, it's tinged pink from blood, sometimes there are little blood spots in clear saliva too. I have an on off cough, feel very tired all the time, foggy, anxious, sometimes feel i cant take a full breath and still have tenderness in my gallbladder area when touched. Over the last couple of days a lump like feeling has developed in my throat along with breastbone tenderness and sometimes a bit of dull chest pain. I seem to constantly be creating mucous in my throat as if it's dripping at the back of my throat. Any ideas why I am tasting blood all the time and it's appearing in my saliva every day? (On top of this, although i'm only 25 years old, I have chronic back pain and one doctor has suggested I have fibromyalgia symptoms, but these tests are ongoing).

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis with PND .

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having
chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis with post nasal discharge ( PND ) with GERD & chronic laryngitis .
In chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis minor capillary blood oozing is common due to congestion . Cough , fogging , lump feeling in throat & PND is because of chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis & GERD .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice
Saline nasal spray or rinse thrice daily with
Warm salt water gargle twice daily to clear mucus in nose & throat .
You will need Combination Steroid nasal spray with antihistamine 2 puff each nostril twice daily , Tab antihistamine at night & anti inflammatory analgesic Paracetamol twice daily .

You will get relief .

Continue Amoxicillon & Lansoprazole .

Investigation needed like CT Scan Nose & Sinuses . You need to consult ENT specialist for ENT Examination , investigation & nasal spray .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.

Thank you.

My doctor saw my throat today and said my blood vessels at the back of my throat are huge (and they were like this 6 weeks ago). He sent me to have blood test for thyroid, full blood count, liver function, CK, ESR, Rheumatoid Screen. I wasn't anemic 18 months ago when i last had my blood tested - do you know why my vessels might be so enlarged and bleeding? He suggests this is causing the blood every day in my saliva?

He also told me he didn't think I had GERD even though he gave me these antibiotics for the last month - I have finished them now.

He thinks I have problems with my layrnx but isn't sure yet so he hasn't prescribed any medication until the blood test. Does this sound likely and a good option for now?
