Brief Answer:
Get confirmation by Ultrasonography and FNAC.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Your short description of a lump - side of neck - for a while - comes and goes away indicate this to be lymph node only.

Please check for the following:
Any focus of infection in the scalp, may be dandruff or in the ear on the same side. These are usually the cause of lymph node/s that comes and goes away as body also take care of infection.

Ultrasonography and FNAC that is fine needle aspiration cytology when it is large confirms the diagnosis as well as gives the proper diagnosis and helps in management if needed.

I hope this answers your query, helps you.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

With Regards.
