What Causes A Small Gestational Sac In The Early Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: I'm very worried. My daughter is 8 weeks and 3 days pregnant and went for a scan yesterday which showed that the baby's heart is very strong but her sac very small. The doctor also said that her placenta is very weak at moment. He gave a 30 to 40% of the pregnancy going ahead but, even if it does, he didn't paint a very nice picture of what can lay ahead. Any comment on this would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately don't have the scan with me at moment but will scan next week.

The answers to your questions are:

1) Yes, she is spotting during this pregnancy and she bled a lot when she was 6 weeks. Went to the emergency and the heart beat was at 108.

2) She had a little girl in 2013 and since then had two miscarriages, one at 8 weeks with twins.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I'm worrying sick.

Brief Answer:
Threatened abortion should be ruled out. Repeat TVS after 1 wk.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for updated information.

1) In this case, I can suggest to take Micronised progesterone supplement and prenatal vitamins. They would help to prevent threatened miscarriage if occurs.

2) Repeat Trans Vaginal ultrasound scan after 1 week to confirm the viability of the fetus. Take adequate bed rest; AVOID heavy work, uneven surface, long journey, high heel shoe and maintain genital hygiene properly.

3) I suggest you to consult with your treating doctor for complete prescription and management of the case. You may need to proceed some investigation if you lose this pregnancy.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.
