What Causes A Rash On The Scrotum?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Mar 2017
Question: I have a rash on my scrotum and inner thigh. It is itchy and a little painful. This is the worst it has been and it has lasted for the past week or so. Over the past couple years, I have had something going on, like very mild jock itch, sometime barely noticeable and other times more noticeable. But fairly consistent. Not like this though. I can upload a picture.

Brief Answer:
Diaper rash, here are a few instructions and treatment recommendations

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Dermatitis or can also be called a diaper rash in adults is what it looks like from the attached image which can occur due to causes like:

+Leaving the region moist or wet for long durations of time
+Sweating in the region often and not staying in a well ventilated environment
+Not washing well after your bowel movements and/or passing urine
+Poor hygiene
+Frequent infections
+More commonly seen in the elderly due to urinary incontinence (to leakage of urine unknowingly causing the area to be left wet for a long time)
+The use of adult diapers
+Living in a warm or hot environment
and a few others.

Here are my recommendations:

+Make sure you dry your groin and genital region well after a bowel movement or passing urine
+Make sure you shower at least once everyday
+Try and change your inner wear twice daily, especially if you sweat a lot in the region
+Try to stay in a well ventilated environment with the help of a cooler or air conditioner in the room
+Make sure you dry off well enough after a shower
+Make sure you clean and dry yourself well enough after sexual intercourse and/or masturbation, do not sleep after either of the acts without washing and drying off first
+Take sitz baths (3-5 times daily) or warm water showers (at least twice daily) for at least 7-10 days
+You can use any over the counter diaper rash cream (e.g. XXXXXXX AD ointment, diaparene, diaper rash cream, etc.) that your pharmacist recommends and apply over the region (just make sure there are no cracks or broken skin)

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Ok. But all the causes listed would not apply here. how could I have diaper rash or dermatitis? Is it possible this could be herpes? Just asking. I have been tested several times (5-7) over the past few years. IGg. All negative. But 7 years ago my primary doctors diagnosed visually herpes as the cause of some small pimples I had. No culture was taken. But this many tests later, all negative, I am still paranoid. Especially when something like this happens.

Brief Answer:
I can understand, may be the cause is different

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

I can understand, and if the causes listed do not apply in your case, may be there is some other cause to it sir, some people present with it due to tight fitted clothes, some due to pre-existing diabetes, etc. So there can be more causes to it, but the presentation does match that of dermatitis.

Based on the image which I viewed once again with diligence, the presentation does not match that of herpes sir, and with all the past tests returning negative, it is more likely you do not have herpes.

I can understand how paranoia can set in when this happens sir, and if you do not mind, why don't you try all my recommendations religiously and see if there is an improvement, whatever helps right?

I am always here to help, so please do not hesitate to write to me anytime.

Best wishes sir.
