What Causes A Rash On The Penis Post Hydrocele Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Have had a hydrocel for several years. The past few of those year have had a rash over the hydrocel itself and up the underside of the penis causing pain and enraged junction point at back of penis head after sex. Finally had surgery to repair the hydrocel, thinking that this should create conditions to fix the rash as well. Instead the rash has gone crazy. Now 6 weeks since surgery and still need an ice bag to sleep. Swelling in testicle has not yet gone Down either. Am Currently lathering the entire area with Betaderm cream .01%. No apparent improvement yet?

Brief Answer:
You should consult dermatologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of it so I can give more valuable answer?

Generally, hydrocele surgery very often causes even more swelling than before the surgery. Especially if the hydrocele was pretty large. This is a normal thing and usually it disappears by itself indeed. It just takes months. It is good to have an ultrasound done from time to time to make sure there is no additional fluid collection.

The skin problem should somehow get less intense when the swelling will be gone (it stimulates the rash for sure). Fungal infection is what should be ruled out. To do that, you should rather consult dermatologist than urologist.
Steroid cream along with antifungal agent should help.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

A couple of days after your answer (which was exactly in line with my own Urologist, but a second opinion is always good), I had an ejaculation. This was followed instantly with what felt like a quick sharp pop in the upper right corner of my sac. This was shortly followed by a slight swelling of the groin on that right side just above the sac upper right side just above base of penis. Then very painfull testicle. Reported this to urologist, he told me to wait a bit, he thought it would go away. Now another four weeks, 9 since original surgery. No Improvement, extreme pain in testicle, all swelling still there. Require 2 mg of Hydromorphone and Ice Bags to sleep at night. Is it time to go crying back for more help.

Brief Answer:
This might be serious.

Detailed Answer:
As you require such strong pain killers, this is not a normal thing. So long after the surgery (9 weeks) there is always some improvement if everything is fine. Otherwise, it is necessary to verify it. You may have an abscess in the surgery area. Please check your heart rate. If its more than 100, you should not wait.
An ultrasound is what should be done once again.
