What Causes A Painful Hard Lump Above The Eye Socket Ridge?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: I had a blowout fracture repair 1/29/16 with a titanium mesh plate inserted. I now have a very painful hard lump in the soft area beneath my eye but above the eye socket ridge. It hurts to move my eye, I get a lot of nasal stuffiness on that side and painful pressure above my eye by my eyebrow. The surgeon is sending me to another surgeon because he doesn't know what it is. I have to wait 6 wks for this appointment. It hurts a lot and I'm not sure if it's safe to wait that long. What do you think. And any idea what it could be ?

Brief Answer:
Get a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

Painful movements of the eye could be due to the following reasons:
1. The screws, if projecting too long into the eye socket
2. Trapping of the intraocular muscles
3. Presence of granulation tissue

I would suggest you to get a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses done before proceeding to the next doctor. This will give us accurate picture of things happening in the eye.

You can continue with the same medicines till you get the CT scan done.

Hope this answers your query; revert back to me if you have any follow up queries.
