What Causes A Lump On The Forehead After Injury?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jun 2017
Question: Can you please assess my photo. I hit myself in the head with a microphone stand before, (five minutes ago). It probably is stupid, but I'd like to know if I should tend to the lump.

Brief Answer:
First 24 hrs is the most important phase...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome to HealthcareMagic,

I've reviewed the attached image, yes it seems like a minor bruise due to that hit... Yes, due to that impact of the injury, it's quite likely that it will tend to form some swelling(lump)...

Nothing to worry, as of now, start applying ice compression over the area, a frozen bag of pea will do, keep applying it for four to five minutes for as many as five-six times a day for the next 48hrs, it would speed up the healing process as well as help reduce the swelling...

For the superficial skin injury, just apply some Betadine solution (Povidone-iodine) over the area twice daily for next 2-3 days and keep the area dry, this should be enough for healing...

Take ample rest, stay well hydrated by drinking a lot of water (avoid any form of alcohol and/ smoking if at all do) for the time being...

If you didn't hit very hard, it should heal within next 3-4 days only, don't worry, just follow the advises...

Let me know if I can assist you further..

Take Care
Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
don't worry, it's just a phase, it'll pass soon..

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

No, not likely, although very sharp hit can have a bad and comparatively bigger bruise (which you may notice after getting up), just avoid taking Diazepam and Ritalin for tonight...

Yes, sleeping can be a bit more but that's a normal process, nothing to worry...

Just follow the advises, and apply the ice compression and the antiseptic solution(Betadine) at least once before you go to sleep as it'll speed up the healing process (lump will take at least 3-4 days to heal completely)...

Avoid driving/ any heavy-strenuous activities for the time being...for mild pain, Tylenol will be sufficient...

In an unlikely case, if you notice some severe headache/vomiting/weakness over any body parts/ sudden shaking-shivering/ vision disturbance, then please visit your nearest ER for a prompt neurological assessment and CT-scan of the head to look into it further (I highly doubt this will be the case in this scenario, still this is just for you to keep in mind if at all observed)...

Nothing to worry as of now, just follow the advises at least once before going to bed...take rest...

Wish you a speedy recovery
Kind Regards

Sorry if this is unrelated, but i have been getting extreme bouts of fatigue; (before, and not related to the injury). I don't know whether I can attribute this to medicines, or if it is something else. I get cold, shaky, nauseous, forget names, faces, where I am, and so on. I understand anxiety can manifest in many ways, however, this does not feel like anxiety. It is quite worrying, especially the dizzy spells. I take 400mg b.d of lamictal, ritalin 70mg daily, diazepam 2-4mg. This fatigue will come on, and I will have to walk into another room. I can't think, and do not know why I have periods of this. I have tried to figure out a cause and thought it may have been the Lamictal; as it occurs about three to four hours after it, but can also appear at any tme.

Brief Answer:
yes it's not related...

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

Yes, this doesn't seem to be related to this injury which you've rightly pointed out..

I'd suggest checking serum electrolytes(sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium) along with a hemogram and peripheral blood smear, FBS, Vit-B12 and Vit D3 levels to look into it further(deficiencies of either one of these can present with such similar symptoms)...

If despite testing, no abnormalities found, then further dose modification of your current medications (especially the Ritalin, as it's going on in a quite higher dosage as per your description) can be planned...

You're right, anxiety can certainly manifest to some extent, but before leveling it as anxiety, other organic causes need to be ruled out in the first place..

So please discuss these with your Neurologist/Psychiatrist and proceed further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
