Question: Hello.......this is my 3rd day since total hip replacement. Im mainly fine, except that im drinking more fluids during the day to try to raise my blood pressure, but the quantity increase is not very great, im finding the need to urinate during the night is very great (up to six times), and the effect is immediate and feels alarming. I find myself becoming incontinent.

Brief Answer:
Sphincter weakness

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

Drinking a lot of water can lead to frequent need to void urine.

I suggest that you have a word with your Doctor so that you may not need to follow this method to raise your blood pressure. Also if there is incontinence, you should get yourself evaluated by a Gynaecologist for sphincter weakness or urge incontinence. You may need to be catherised by a Foley catheter in the bladder to avoid soiling of the bed for now.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thankyou. My nurse has said that my anaesthetic may have been part of the cause. I had a spinal freeze

Brief Answer:
Less likely due to Anaesthesia

Detailed Answer:
It is less likely due to Anaesthesia because in such a condition there would be weakness and sensory disturbance in the limbs as well.

I would still go with Lumbar canal stenosis to best explain your symptoms. Please do get all MRI of the lumbosacral spine to confirm.
