What Causes Pain Below The Calf And In The Ankle?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: My right leg has a strange feeling below the calf and into the ankle. It is a pain that feels tight like some type of compression. When I went to bed, it was fine. Two hours later it woke me up. Had it for three days. The leg had a hip replacement two years ago. If I walk on the leg for a number of hours, it feels fine again, but at night the same thing happens. Never had a pain like this. Not shooting, or tingle but more pressure

Brief Answer: Likely to be due to muscle spasm in the area. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. Pain below the calf and into the ankle is likely to be due to muscle spasm in the area. This might be the cause of tight feeling in this region. You need to do muscle strengthening and stretching exercises around ankle and lower leg to strengthen the muscle and to relive the spasm. Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will be helpful. You can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin as and when required to reduce pain. If the pain and spasm is persistant even after these measures, then I suggest you to get it evaluated by an orthopaedician for examination. He may advise you for the xray to see any bony changes. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
