What Causes IBS Symptoms After Gallbladder Removal Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Remarkably when my gi surgeon removed the stent- i became asymptomatic- all of those horrific cramps and pulls and spastic pains disappoeared. He said the bile was flowing continuously and at a rapid pace- the stent was not needed as my CBD was " wide open" prior to stenting- well at least thats over. My initial pain has resolved over the next few days- my change in diet has helped. It appears this knife like pain as i originalky described under my breast bone becoming worse with eating causing anorexia for up to 3 weeks and occurring about once a year is also somehow related to lifting heavier weights in the gym. Even if its a 5 lb increase. I wish i had a definitive diagnosis for this - as it has now become obvious these horrific RUQ cramping sensations are due to increased bile flow- the inreased bouts of diarrhea were secondary to VH IBS and possibly post cholecystectomy syndrome- so youve been a great help and i appreciate your expertise. finding this last piece of the puzzle would be great- so as to treat it accordingly- thx XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

It's a great pleasure to know that our advices were of help.
Since your symptoms has been disapeared after stent removement, than most likely your aymptoms are related with IBS.
To my opinion IBS may be triggered from bile flow especially after gallbladder removed.

After gallbladder removement the bile flow is not secreted in portions in duoden but it is continously.
It may be tha cause of your symptoms .

You should continue with dietary and lifestyle changes. Please try to avoid lifting heavy weights because this may provoke the RUQ pain.

Please discuss with your specialist to start medical treatment for IBS .

This will be of help in your case.
Wish you health!

Brief Answer:
Lifting trigger nervous plexus sensitivity..

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Gastrointestinal distention in your case stimulate nervous plexus which are present on your spine (solar plexus). It needs a minimal stimulus to trigger the pain (in your case lifting 10 pounds).

This is why it's essential to avoid lifting heavy weights when you feel bloated or abdominal tenderness.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
