What Causes Hematospermia In Old Aged People?

Posted on Tue, 1 Apr 2014
Question: Good day.... my health problem is with Hemospermia, it started about three years ago. Needless to say that I was shocked and scared. A that time I talked to my family practician and did not seem to have much concerns about it. All he told me was that it was a common problem with men of my age, which is 57 years old, As the Hemospermia did not go away after a year, I pressured my doctor to hook me up with a specialist in order to get a more define answer orf answers as to why I have this problem. I found out that the specialist did not know much about it either and did not seem to care much about it, the consultation with him lasted about five minutes... So as of today, I am still facing my problem, at times all there is is blood, other times traces of blood, and other times the sperm, if any, has a pinkish color. As of today I still have worries about it, and no need to say, very very annoying.... Hoping you could help me and give a better answer as to why I have it.... Thank you.... XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: To get the diagnosis is most important at 57 Detailed Answer: Hi. Hematospermia is not a common problem at the age of 57. This needs to be investigated thoroughly under the care of Urologist. I would advise such a patient the following::: Clinical examination and digital palpation on per-rectal examination is very informative. Ultrasonography to start with and followed by an MRI with contrast of the pelvis region. Blood tests - routine and specific like Blood PSA. Semen analysis Your Urologist would be willing to do urethro-cystoscopy. The treatment will necessarily depend upon the diagnosis alone. Since you already have been seen by your family Doctor and an Urologist, I would suggest you to visit another Urologist Who would help you to get the diagnosis to aid in further management. I would be happy to get the feedback and willing to answer if you have any further doubts Wishing you an early diagnosis.
