Question: Hello Doctor,

Im planning to go for lasik. I have completed all the pre-op tests and i am eligible for lasik with more than enough corneal thickness. I am doing some research on the best lasik surgery i should opt for but i am coming across many terms like wavefront zyoptix and zyoptix ultimate. Is there a difference?

Brief Answer:
Yes these surgeries vary but principle is same.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

LASIK is one of the commonly performed refractive laser surgery for correction of refractive errors. It is widely practiced with successful results.

LASIK means laser assisted in situ keratomileusis and it corrects the refractive errors by altering the curvature of the cornea.
There are many advancements over the traditional LASIK which is still performed commonly.

One of the recent one is wavefront guided zyoptix or zyoptix ultimate. Both are similar and it includes using wavefront guided laser technology to correct the refractive errors and the aberrations which normally exist in all the eyes and which may result from the LASIK surgery. Hence Zyoptix is superior over the LASIK surgery and it provides superior quality of vision.

The other recent advances in LASIK surgery are Intralase LASIK also called as bladeless lasik. It uses a laser to make the surgical incision and it is more advanced than the wavefront zyoptix.

The cost of the surgeries vary with LASIK costing about Rs. 30,000 Rs. 40,000 for both the eyes, wavefront zyoptix costing around Rs. 40,000- Rs.50,000 and Intralase lasik costing around Rs. 80,000 - Rs. 90,000. Of course the costs vary from centre to centre and from place to place.

Hence I can conclude by saying all these surgeries vary and the principle is same and all are advanced forms of LASIK.
So you can go for wavefront zyoptix or intralase lasik.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you

Thank you Doctor. One more question- In Wavefront Zyoptix, is the initial corneal flap a manual process or is it done through laser?

In there anything like an Intralase wavefront Zyoptix? Please Clarify. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Intralase lasik uses wavefront zyoptix.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up.

In Wavefront zyoptix the initial corneal flap is done by using a blade called as keratome.

In intralase LASIK the corneal flap is done by a laser called as femtosecond laser.
The next step of laser ablation is done by wavefront guided zyoptix machine.
Hence it can be better called as intralase wavefront zyoptix.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
