Brief Answer:
can cause withdrawal; reduce gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

I can understand your concerns.

Nicotine, when stopped suddenly, can cause withdrawal symptoms. But, there are psychological withdrawal symptoms more then physical withdrawals.

I would suggest you a nicotine de-addiction plan which can help you to quit nicotine:

Take 4mg nicotine gum whenever you have craving for smoking. Take as many gum as needed (maximum 15 gums in a day).
This would be your initial dose of nicotine gum.

Then you can reduce gradually the number of gums. Reduce 1gum every 5 days and stop slowly.

Take care that nicotine gum is taken with 'chew and park' technique. Its not not chewed like a normal chewing gum.

If this regime does not help, drugs like bupropion (prescription drug) can help in nicotine de-addiction. You can consult an addiction medicine specialist/psychiatrist for this.

You have to keep your will power strong in this process.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Choice of NRT is made on basis of convenience; efficacy almost same.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) is chosen on the basis of convenience of the person. The efficacy of all the form of NRT (gum, patch, lozenge) is more or less same.

Habitrol and nicorette are just different brand names.
Habitrol is usually only the patch.
Nicorette includes all the range, patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler.

You can alternate between lozenge and gum, keeping the dose same.

Once you have quit smoking, there is no need to take nicotine gum in future.

As I have mentioned earlier that nicotine dependence is more psychological, you need to keep your will power strong to remain abstinent in future.

Hope this helps.
