Hello and welcome,

So here are some statistics and information about leukemias:

Approximately 41 percent of all leukemias are chronic. This category includes chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cases. Hairy cell leukemia (HCL), a slow-growing lymphocytic cancer, accounts for about 2 percent of all leukemias.

Chronic leukemias are generally slow growing and not always lethal but can be harder to cure. Chronic leukemias become more common with age. The average age of patients with CLL is around 70 years, and the average age for CML is 40 to 50 years.

The acute types of leukemias such as acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) occurs mostly in kids younger than 10.

A routine complete blood count (CBC) with differential (percentage of each cell line) can point to if there is a problem.

I hope this information helps.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
While I can't say what your risk of getting it is in your lifetime (as that depends on many factors), two things you can do to lower your risk are:

Avoid, as much as is reasonably possible, known carcinogens such as benzene and other hazardous chemicals.

Do not smoke cigarettes or use tobacco in other forms.

Both of these are modifiable factors that can increase your risk.
