Brief Answer:
Vitamin D

Detailed Answer:
In the long haul, vitamin D deficiency can lead to weak bones that are prone to fracture ie breaking easily.
It can further lead to low blood calcium levels which can be dangerous and life threatening if severely low and untreated.
Other symptoms include muscle weakness.
So it is desirable to keep blood levels of 25 hydroxy Vitamin D between 30 to 50 ng/ml

The first symptom I noticed was weak leg muscles to the point of not being able to get up from a sitting position without extreme pain. In addition I began to notice crepitus in my knees. I was concerned this could be a result of very low
Vitamin D levels. Is this possible? Can taking a treatment prescribed dosing over several months improve this?

Brief Answer:
Possibly

Detailed Answer:
Muscle weakness is indeed possible. It can be expected to note improvement in these symptoms after your Vitamin D levels in the blood are restored to normal. However if symptoms still persist despite normal blood test results , then other causes will need to be explored
