What Are The Symptoms Of Peptic Ulcer?

Question: This started out a few weeks ago with a feeling that I can't take a deep breath, which I've had before. I thought it may be a hiatal hernia, so I gently massaged below the ribcage, down, and it did seem to help with being able to take deep breaths again. A week ago, I noticed that my bowel movements were thin when they came out, soft, and light colored, and broken up, mainly floating. And I was not eliminating the proper amount for how much I was eating. I was only eliminating about a cup of feces a day. It feels like my abdomen is crowded when I take a deep breath, and eating makes my torso feel very tight and bloated. I don't have any sharp pain anywhere, just random dull pains now and then. If I had a bleeding ulcer, how would I know? Would blood be coming out of my stool?

If you have a bleeding ulcer ( I believe you meant bleeding peptic ulcer), the nature of stool depends on the amount of bleeding.
If it is only a few drops, the stool will be normal. But stool occult blood test may be positive.
If there is significant amount of bleeding ( more than 50 ml), the stool will be black tarry, sticky and offensive.
If it is massive bleed, you may find blood in stool. But in this situation, the general condition would be bad and you would be drowsy.

In any case, (even if it were a bleeding ulcer) would taking Pepcid AC be okay? What I mean is, I can't hurt anything to take some and see how I feel, right?

Pepcid is not enough for bleeding ulcer.
You need endoscopic treatment and injections if you have an actively bleeding ulcer.

Hello. I have not been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer, or even a peptic ulcer. I only started having burning pain a couple of weeks ago and wanted to see if Pepcid AC relieved it. The burning is pretty bad, so the only reason I'm asking is to see if I would be causing myself any harm by taking Pepcid AC and not knowing how bad the ulcer is. I have not been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer.

Hi,
If it is just burning pain which could be due probably due to peptic ulcer, you would get good relief with Pepcid. But Prilosec or Nexium would provide better relief.

These medications would not cause any harm.
