Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: I have had the bariatric sleeve surgery. I had complications of a bacterial infection from the stomach being pulled out through an incision. I had surgery 12.20.2013. I now have a cold and my stomach looks like it is inflating with each cough. I wonder if I have a hernia?

Brief Answer:
hernia could be there

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM .

I have read your query and understand your concern. As you have already had wound site infection so chances of incision site hernia are more.

But it needs a physical examination for confirmation. I would suggest you to consult a general surgeon or get ultrasound of abdomen for confirmation.

Other possibility is stricture forming at point where part of stomach was removed. Whenever you cough there may be entrapment of air and inflating. For confirmation of this a contrast x-ray or endoscopy is needed.

So in my opinion get ultrasound first and show to a surgeon. As further management depends on the report and his evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
