What Are The Symptoms Of Hemorrhoid?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Jul 2016
Question: Hi,

On last Monday I could feel a lump just outside my anus. Tuesday it grew bigger and the pain intensified, Wednesday the pain was even more and I went to see a doctor. Looking at it the doctor said it is piles or hemorrhoids and prescribed medication.

I told that I never had a problem and told that I do not have any symptoms of it, as I had read in internet.

However they confirmed that it is indeed piles or hemorrhoids and they tried to push the lumps in. It was a lot inflamed and they could no do it. Asked me to take medicines and ointments so that it will reduce and I could push it in. Taking the medication the lump reduced but is still there.

I wanted to know:

1. Looking at the pictures of piles or hemorrhoids in internet, I do not think I have the same type. Need a confirmation on that.
2. It does not seem to go in.
3. I never had a bleeding history.

Brief Answer:
Please post actual photographs.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I have read the history you have provided including the medication and that you never had bleeding per rectum and understood your concerns.

To answer your queries with due explanation wherever necessary:
1. Looking at the pictures of piles or hemorrhoids in internet, I do not think I have the same type. Need a confirmation on that.
> The confirmation can be done by two ways:
- Please post clear pictures of the affected area as it helps sometimes for on-the-spot diagnosis. Post the pictures of initial periods, follow-ups and the present condition.
- Get examined by a General Surgeon to get a confirmed diagnosis whether this being a thrombosed prolapsed pile/s or an abscess or so.

2. It does not seem to go in.
> If the structure is outside the anal verge or has its stalk at the opening, it can not be pushed in.

3. I never had a bleeding history.
> It is not necessary that all the piles bleed. It is also possible to present the thrombosed piles to be the first presentation, although rare.

I hope this answer helps to clear your doubts, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Brief Answer:
Looks more of an abscess as per the picture attached

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for a clear picture.
This looks more of an abscess than a thrombosed pile.
It is long, has surrounding edema, does not have the typical purple or bluish picture of the prolapsed pile, but since it is a week the color can not be an indication as it changes over time.
I would advise you to consult a General Surgeon for examination. Doing a per-rectal digital examination and proctoscopy may not be possible if there is lot of pain.
In such a condition a high resolution ultrasonography or MRI give better diagnosis.
If the abscess is suspected, your surgeon may go for examination under spinal or general anesthesia and do incision and drainage and further procedures as per the findings. Aspiration can confirm whether this is an abscess or a thrombosed pile.
Please discuss these points with your General Surgeon to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this answer helps you.
All the best.
Please give feedback too.
