What Are The Symptoms Of Gastritis?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Oct 2015
Question: I have always had stomach issues (irritation seen on endoscopy etc), well I was able to get that under control but I did something stupid last weekend and drank a lot of whiskey and since then my stomach hurts so bad, nauseas to the point on cant eat, tired and fatigued, bad taste in mouth etc.. my new insurance doesn't kick in until end of October so cant go to ER or anything. Could this be a gastritis flare up?

Brief Answer:
yes and probably is

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is probably gastritis flare up and you need to do some measures to avoid some more serious complications such as ulcer perforation: although this is not likely to happen if there is no ulcer on previous endoscopies.
You need to completely stop using alcohol, coffee, carbonated drinks, cold drinks, fried food and spicy food. Also, take antiacid medicines, ranitidin or pantoprasole. You can also use OTC medications such as Iberogast, chammomile tea, ginger or CArom seeds.
You need to eat milk products, boiled meat and potato, vegetables, drink menta tea. If there is no improvement within 24 hours, you should see gastroenteologist and repeat gastroscopy if required Wish you good health. Regards

how long does this usually last? in the morning is the worst when my stomach is empty. I bought a bottle of Mylanta and am taking Pepcid. Can this make you fatigued?

oh and no ulcers just spots of irritation and a hiatal hernia on last endoscopy

Answered by Dr. Dr. Ivan Romich (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
up to 4-5 days

Detailed Answer:
Alcohol induced gastritis may persist for 4-5 days. Mylanta can lead to fatigue.
If there were no ulcers then this is good sign.
Try to drink warm menta tea in the morning and take Ranitidin before sleep.

Answered by Dr. Dr. Ivan Romich (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
you need to change your diet

Detailed Answer:
Then you should probably change your dietary habits and follow some antiacid diet. 7 days is bit too much for pain to persist. If it last for few more days, you need to do gastroscopy.

Brief Answer:
yes

Detailed Answer:
hi.
Yes, this is good decision. It simply must improve on these measures. SOme more serious diagnoses are rare in your age. If condition will improve, you dont need to do gastroscopy.
