What Are The Symptoms Of A Brain Tumor?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: I have had some odd symptoms recently and wondering where to turn and what could be going on.
Here is a quick list of what has been happening..
Symptoms

When sleeping on left side:

Waking to muscles in side of face fatigued or crunched
- around and on top of cheek bone
- around eye
- sinuses feel collapsed

Longer term
Throughout the day feel pressure around eyes which tend to subside
Ear feels constant slight blockage, like need to yawn or clear it
The left side of head has residual muscle tightness from check to temple and sometimes top left of head
left side temple headache or tension headache, often relaxing or hot compress helps

A few times the face crunching feeling comes with neck crick

My left leg around the outer thigh gets a cold feeling while laying on left side
This feeling travels up and down my leg and in my groin throughout the day it comes and goes
Typically sleeping on my stomach alleviates these feelings
While sitting and driving I notice the feeling most.

Frequency
~4 months ago had the face crunch with neck issues, described it as feeling like I was pressing the side of my head into the pillow while sleeping
~3 weeks ago had the same feeling but with leg coldness which concerned me
~ for past 2 weeks on and off face crunching feelings with sinus collapsing feelings through day
~3 weeks, have been feeling cold running up and down left leg and through groin
- have had back pain near right sciatic due to running, but recently (2 weeks) there is no pain or abnormal feeling in the area, just cold feeling in left leg

What have I done/do
Tried sleeping on right side, seems to help with symptoms, hard to stay on right side often roll to left and end up with symptoms. When i can stay on my right side, I typically do not have symptoms other than cold feeling up and down left leg and in groin.
I run 3X per week 3 miles per run
I take Lexapro
6' and 176lbs

Other Odd symptoms
Trying to sleep on my back, I ended up sleeping on left side back of head. I awoke to a feeling of loss of blood to that area and felt like cold water pouring over the area. residual feeling in the morning which subsided as the day progressed.

My concern:
- that this is a brain tumor or a vascular issue in my head putting pressure and causing these symptoms

Brief Answer:
Not likely to be a brain tumor or vascular issue.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This seems to be more of a nutritional deficiency, hormone related or a musculoskeletal issue (including spasms)

2. Get the following tests done:
a. Vitamin B12
b. Serum Calcium
c. Vitamin D
d. Thyroid Function Tests
e. Spine X-rays
f. Any other test suggested by a Neurologist and an Orthopedic.

3. Brain tumors and abnormal blood vasculature is extremely rare. An MR Angioraphy without contrast can easily rule these out conclusively. This imaging is not a priority.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
