What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of OCD?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Feb 2017
Question: Do I suffer from a condition or not, I have listed some symptoms below:

- Repeating things in my mind, even out loud if I am alone, it can be something very silly or a phrase, it can then be hard to let go.
- Can be afraid to leave the home, think people are looking at me and afraid of social situation with neighbors etc.
- Will avoid doing things like cutting the lawn etc because of above. But if with my close friend I am OK to do normal things.
- Not seeking new friendships or relationships - not sure, just don't seem to have the desire or know-how?
- Dedicated to one thing: my online business. I have limited interests otherwise.
- Hate eye contact, I am working on this, but don't find it easy.
- Worry about small things such as calories, grey hairs (that others can't see).
- Have had low erection or sexual desires (asexual as mentioned with lack of relationship desire) - although L-arginine taking seems to be starting to work since taking 2 days ago, will see, but not interested seemingly in sexual relationship.
- Not always easy to read others facial expressions, as in I feel as though they are throwing at me or something and this makes me react negatively, when they probably aren't (I think I am misreading them).
- Worry about being alone (I currently live at home with parents).
- I have a close friend and visit my aunt, when not this I work hard from home.

PS. My mother has OCD - or something similar. My dad has transvestite fetish (not that this probably matters, and I haven't personally seen him do this).

----
Hope you can help advise if this is a condition and how to attempt on having more positively moving forward in certain areas.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Psychological counselling will help.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Based on what I understand from the description you have provided you need psychological counselling. A counselling enables you to understand the problem in concrete terms. You have already taken the first step by trying to be parametric. Your counsellor can help further by parametrically helping you to look for cues of improvement so that you can bring in behavioural modification for improvement of your presentation. He may also attempt psychotherapy if that seems to be likely to benefit you.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Online counselling can be tried.

Detailed Answer:
It seems to involve depression and/or dysthymia. You can try online counselling. Depending on the gravity of the situation you might also need some medication for relief and you might need to see a psychiatrist for the same.

Brief Answer:
Psychologist needs to be seen

Detailed Answer:
You are in the borderline grey zone where autism is possible and needs to be ruled out using further evaluation. The psychologist will be able to administer the tests once you visit him. The psychologist will also be able to rule out concurrent issues like depression and would be able to administer suitable remedial measures.

Ok, thanks. Can I talk with you then - are you a psychologist?

Answered by Dr. Prof. Kunal Saha (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
A direct face to face interaction with a psychologist would be more helpful

Detailed Answer:
No, I am not a psychologist. Although you can talk to a psychologist online, I feel that a direct face to face interaction would be more helpful.
