My mother is suffering from diabetes. According to her diabetes level, doctor suggested to take insulin injection. She is using that injection from past 5-6 month. Her diabetes is in control as of now.
Is it recommended to stop the insulin injectionnow and continue with medicines?
Are there any side effects having insulin injections for long time period?

Greetings from HCM... I understood your concern.. Insulin is normally secreted by pancreas in healthy individuals to bring down the blood glucose levels .. But in diabetic subjects, either insulin is less / absent ..or tissues are insensitive to insulin .. So we give insulin hormone from outside to control blood glucose levels .. Its completely natural / physiological.. Now a days the complications related to insulin injections are so less even we have insulin pens .. Which are so safe accurate and painless .. Of course some pigmentation and fat accumulation .. Controlling blood glucose levels is more important than these right ?? Of course patient s on insulin especially older patients on short acting insulin may take twice the doses or forget to eat after taking insulin .. May go for dangerous hypoglycemic coma.. Which should be taken care of .. Otherwise insulin is totally safe and must be taken in the and with nutritious food and physical exercise increases the sensitivity the tissues to insulin... Please monitor the glucose levels and check HbA1c and microalbuminuria .. Please remember that as we stress lifestyle changes are must ie.. Diet and exercise .. To control the sugar level s .. Please give more of green leafy vegetables, pts, milets, fish, avoid too much of carbohydrates ..
