I know what the side effects for all these drugs are. What I was talking about was when used in combination, is there any effects good or bad, such as more kidney, liver or cardiac problems when used together?

Brief Answer:
There is no added risk when used in combination

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

There is no other added risk other than hypoglycaemia when these drugs are used in combination.

Glyburide is not a safe drug from cardiac point. Metformin won't cause kidney problems , but if you have kidney problems due to diabetes we cannot continue Metformin as side effects like lactic acidosis increases.

If you are using basal insulin ( NPH or Glargine or detemir) there rationale in taking it with Glyburide and Metformin. But if you are taking twice daily pre mixed insulin it is recommended to stop Glyburide.

Hope this information was useful to you.
