Question: Hi,
My fiancee had taken unwanted 72 contraceptive pill within 24 hrs of having intercourse after dinner. She has hypothyroid and taking 1 tablet each day in the morning. Please advice whether it will be safe for her to take unwanted 72 and also please let me know what are the side effects of Unwanted 72 on future pregnancy..?

Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Its good that she has taken it avoid pregnancy but always remember that it is an emergency contraceptive pill and thus its use should be restricted to situations like condom slippage or rupture
It should not be a routine to take it everytime you guys indulge in sexual activity.
So in case you plan to be sexually active in future either use protection in the form of condom or ask her to start raking oral pills on daily basis so as to avoid unwanted pregnancy.
It has no interaction with thyroid status of the patient but can cause nausea, bloating in abdomen, breast tenderness and irregular periods for a couple of months.
In some patients it can even cause tubal ectopic pregnancy which is a surgical emergency and the use should be very much restricted.
