Question: MY HUSBAND HAS HAD FLUID REMOVED FROM HIS RIGHT LUNG IN sEPT. AND aPRIL HE HAS ONLY HAD A SLIGHT SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND ALL HIS TESTS ARE NORMAL EXCEPT HE HAS LOST HALF HIS KIDNEy FUNCTION FROM USING THE DRUG FELDENE. HE is 81 yrs old, weighs 150 lbs. and 5'8". His BP
runs about 120/70. He is active and exercises almost daily. He had back surgery about 5 yrs. ago & has very
Little pain. After many tests, the heart specialist could not find any problem, maybe aging he said. He is not on Lasix. Now they just removed 2.1 qts. & sent him home. He eats well. We need advice.

Since the cardiologist has ruled out heart ailment as the cause,the focus now shifts on kidney.

Its extremely important that he undergoes few sessions of dialysis.

This dialysis is known to eliminate fluid accumulations in various serous cavities.

Lasix is not advisable in your case.

He can continue the other prescribed medications.

I did not make it clear that the liquid is not in his lung, but in the lining. Would that change your answer?

The above management applies to both types of fluid accumulations.

Additionally a course of antibiotics is needed in pleural effusion cases. .
