What Are The Side Effects Of Crocin?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: SIr,
This is regarding my 16 month old son. He has been having fever since yesterday evening and we adminstered him with crocin drops 5 ml each 4 hourly. Again today morning he had fever (he doesnt keep still to let us measure exact temperature) and we gave him Meftal and he was fine untill evening again. Now we have again given him crocin 5ml. Should we continue with crocin or is it advisable to give meftal. The recent temperature reading that we tried recording today evening before giving him crocin was 100.6.

Brief Answer:
Is it really crocin drops?

Detailed Answer:
Hi Thanks for writing to us.
Usually at this age the maximum crocin drops you can give is only 1 to 1.5 ml.
If it is crocin syrup then 5 ml is fine.
But if you had been giving drops at 5 ml then it is toxic dose.
Rush your child to emergency. Because at high dose crocin can damage liver.
No need to meftal at this fever
Crocin should be enough. Usually fever is viral and may settle in a day or two. Bus it is always better to show your child to your doctor and get him examined.
Wishing your child good health.

Thanks for your response. Sorry for the confusion, its crocin syrup not drops that we gave him. We took him to a doctor and he has advised to continue crocin and if crocin doesnt work then meftal. My only question is whether meftal is safe (3ml has been prescribed S.O.S.) Secondly since he just recovered from fever, cough & cold about 3 weeks back and again since he is down with fever, is there anyway we can prevent such frequent re-occurences.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
yes it is safe

Detailed Answer:
1. Yes meftal 3ml is safe. You can give.
2. To prevent frequent cold and fever, get flu vaccination every year.
This will help to prevent infections to some extent. Also do give pneumococcal vaccination if not given already.
