Question: My Dr. wants me off Prednisone which I have been taking for a short time after being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis aaand suggested I start on Cmizia and is setting up an appt. with the local hosp.. Is this an injection and what are the side affects? I am 93 yrs. old Is this necessary?

Hello madam,
I have read your case and I agree with your doctor that steroid like prednisone should not be taken for longer time.
Cmizia is a immune system related injection and it has serious side effects. Increase chances of infection , cancer are two most serious side effects.
Whether it is necessary or not depend upon how much problem , rheumatoid arthritis is causing in your body. If joint pain and stiffness is very much, and it is affecting your daily routine then you need this. If your pain is not much and you are better with ordinary pain killers then you can avoid it. It should be used in very serious disease as last resort.
