What Are The Side Effects Of Betamethasone And Clobetasol?

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Jun 2017
Question: How long does corticosteroid cream such as clobetasol or betamethasone stay active on skin or on fabric? If I apply it several hours before bedtime do I have to worry about it getting on my sheets and spreading it to areas of my body that it shouldn't be on? Does it become safe after it dries? I'm very afraid of the side effects of these creams but I occasionally have to use them on my psoriasis.

Brief Answer:
IT is safe when it dries off!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully. Significant amounts of the active ingredient in steroid creams are absorbed shortly after application. By the time it gets dry, there is little left to be further absorbed into other areas. Also, the dry form is less easily absorbed. While it is necessary to avoid unnecessary contact with other areas of the body, precautions are most necessary during application. There is therefore little reasons to be so worried about possible effects on unintended areas several hours after application.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
