What Are The Risks Of Frequent Medical Abortions?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: Respected Sir/Madam,
I had medical abortion one month back. In between, there was a normal menstrual period, although the duration was four days (usually 5-6 days and more bleeding). unfortunately i am pregnant again now. I am in big tension that if i go for medical abortion again, will there be any effect on possibilities of future pregnency. Due to different constraint i have no other option rather than abortion but thinking about my future as well. please suggest me. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
There is 10 % risk of future infertility

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
You just had an abortion a month back.
I would strongly suggest that you should have used contraceptives , and should use contraceptives in future, to avoid repeated and frequent abortions that will damage your body and fertility.
As such, medical abortion is safe under medical guidance.
You should not take the pills without consulting a doctor first and an ultrasound scan before and after taking the pills.
You can have a repeat abortion safely and in 90 % of cases, there is no effect on future fertility.
In 10 % of cases, there may be infection and tubal block or damage to the uterus that will impact pregnancy in future.
If you are prepared to take this risk, you can go ahead and consume pills again.
I would strongly advise continuation of the pregnancy if the circumstances permit.
Think of abortion only if it is unavoidable.
Take care, dear.
Please feel free to discuss further at any point.
My prayers for you.
