What Are The Repercussions Of Accidental Intake Of Comfort Fabric Conditioner By A Child?
Question: My 26 month old baby boy has swallowed a teaspoon of comfort fabric conditioner accidentally. I cleaned his mouth immediately n gave some water after some time. He fell asleep after 1hour since it was his sleep time. Before sleeping he was normal. What should I do? Please help.

There are no standard antidotes against the chemicals contained in Comfort fabric conditioner. So the management would be symptomatic. As of now, the child is asymptomatic. Check his chest movements. If it seems fine, I would insist you to wait and watch. Abdominal pain and diarrhea are the likely outcomes. However, they would not essentially occur. If anything untoward seems to be occurring, be sure to rush him to the emergency department of a hospital with paediatric facilities.

Thank you doctor for your helpful advice at a crucial moment. Really thanks alot.. After my son woke up in the morning he passed a lot of gas and did potty which was dark brownish and slimy. Also his diaper was dry in the morning. His activities are normal and playful but he seems a bit drowsy/lethargic at times. Can I give him ORS for dehydration and should I continue his normal diet. ( one important point I missed in panic is that 30 to 45 mins b4 he swallowed comfort he was administered Bestozyme paed syrup as prescribed by his paed). What should I do now?
