What Are The Repercussions Of Accidental Ingestion Of Paracetamol By An Infant?

Question: Hi I found a paracetemol container on the floor in my room with my 14mth grandson. I am convinced he hasnt taken any as he wouldn't of had time and I'm sure he couldn't get one out of the foil but I'm still really worried. He was 18lbs at his yearly check. It happened at 11.30am and since then be has had a good lunch some milk and is now having a nap.

I thought as much but just needed some reassurance

Thankyou

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to have consumed paracetamol tablet. Do not panic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Cassa,

Thank you for trusting healthcaremagic with your concern regarding your grandson.

If the paracetamol container was blister pack/aluminium strip foil, then it is highly unlikely that your grandson was able to peel off the foil and ingest the tablet.

Children that young do not usually have the necessary know how to do that, so do not worry.

And the fact that your grandson since then has had a good lunch and some milk and is now sleeping is quite reassuring.

Even if he has consumed one tablet of paracetamol, it is unlikely to cause any problem.

Keep a close watch, that is all that is necessary at this time.

Hope this answers your question.

Wishing you and your grandson good health.

Regards.
