Question: I accidentally took about 16 excedrine Migrane pills. I thought I had grabbed my bedtime supplements, both in a travel pill case. Do I need to do anything?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I am sorry that no one responded to your question sooner.

Excedrin Migraine contains aspirin, caffeine, and acetaminophen.

Acetaminophen is the ingredient in Tylenol. This medicine can do damage to the liver in excess. There is medicine (N-acetyl cysteine or Mucomyst) which can help protect the liver from damage from overdose of acetaminophen. So please go in to the ER now where they can give you Mucomyst and monitor how your liver enzymes are doing.

The other medicines in the Excedrine Migraine do not have as much potential for damage. The aspirin may upset your stomach and increase the likelihood of bleeding. the caffeine will just possibly give some jitters.

You are welcome to ask further questions, but I recommend that right now you go into the ER because of the acetaminophen overdose.
