Question: Hello,

I am getting a thyroid test done tomorrow.

Can you please tell me what precautions are to be taken before the test?

Should I be fasting? No drinking water?

Brief Answer:
no fasting

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

there are no precautions that have to be taken. Fasting is not required and the hormones can be measured at any time during the day. Many doctors recommend that the blood gets drawn before taking thyroxine dose (if you take thyroxine) but this is neither obligatory nor crucial. It just has to be taken into account when the doctor has the result on hand.

Kind Regards!

Hello,

Thanks for the earlier reaponse. We have gotten the test done and the results are attached.

Wanted to ask - why have they included pregnancy related metrics in the result? Is that usually done?

Can you please look at the attached report and tell me your comments? Do the reaults look normal?

Thank You

Brief Answer:
fT3, fT4 are OK

Detailed Answer:
You're welcome!

fT3 and fT4 are normal. TSH is a little high but not too much (it's probably within the normal range of the lab). Unless you've got symptoms of hypothyroidism (which I doubt) there is nothing you should do right now. Monitoring TSH values after 1 year or so, seems like a reasonable approach.

Many labs also include the reference range for pregnancy because the values are different (lower).

Kind Regards!
