What Are The Effects Of Having High B12 Levels?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: I was rxd methylcobalamin shots w/o testing B12 levels. This was based on a neurological exam. After 1 year I was tested at >2000 and that MD was not concerned. I decided to stay off of it for 5 weeks and get tested to find my baseline. I again tested at >2000.

I'm wondering if I did not wait long enough to get tested. How long does it take for it to
clear your body. .

I've read everything from indicating cancer to it meaning nothing.

Brief Answer:
Vit B12 toxicity is rare!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your worries with possible higher levels but Vit B12 toxicity is very rare. I understand websites have raise the concern about associations with cancers and liver disease. This is clearly not the case with you because you can pinpoint the reason why which is simply increased intake. In your case, it may not mean nothing but consistent with the increased consumption.

I am happy you have stopped. 5 weeks seem a short time but there is no exact timeline for this. I will recommend you go for at least 12 weeks before considering any further testing.

How are your neurological symptoms? Are they improved or still about the same?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
