Brief Answer:
Considering your age and Low AMH chances are less

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Had you been less than 30 yrs, chances are higher with this low AMH and high FSH.
At this age with low AFC and high FSH, AMH will be low and natural conception chances are very very less.
You can give a trial for IVF, but chances are very less for ovulation.

I hope my answer helps you.

Thank you. I am actually the husband, it is my wife who is 42. I am trying to decide if IVF is worth trying so I want to get an objective opinion from someone who would not be the one performing the procedure. I've read that women her age have a 10% chance of success with IVF but i think her chances are much less because of her test results. Do you agree?

Brief Answer:
Yes I agree

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You are absolutely right. Considering high FSH, and low AMI at 40 yrs has very low chances of egg development even with stimulation for IVF.
You can try IVF and if she doesn't ovulate donor egg can be considered if her endometrium and uterus is adequate.

I hope my answer helps you.

Thanks again, this is very helpful. One last thing - If you were to express her chances as a percentage what would they be? (she doesn't want a donor egg so to me it doesn't make sense to try but I need more than just a word like "low" to make my point.

Brief Answer:
It is very difficult to give a percentage

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

There are so many other criteria to consider other than AMH,FSH, and AFC.
Other medical conditions ,uterine factors including endometrium has to be ascertained before predicting.
Have you ever tried for IVF and if so how she responded for ovarian stimulation?

No we haven't we're trying to decide if it's worth the cost. If all women her age have a 10% chance, I'm guessing that her chances are less than 5% even though other factors (uterus, tubes, etc) are ok.

I know I only get 2 follow up questions so thanks for your help.

Tubes are not required for IVF

Hi,

You can discuss with your infertility specialist and give it a trial if other parameters are favorable.

Wishing all the success to you both.
