What Are The Chances Of Prozac Withdrawal Symptoms After Switching To Wellbutrin?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, I was on Prozac (fluoxetine) for 10 years. Final dosage 40mg/day before bed. I also take 300mg of Wellbutrin. Unintentionally, I have not taken my Prozac for almost 2.5 weeks. I have continued my Wellbutrin. I feel GREAT! Do I need to worry about withdrawal symptoms from the Prozac? I would like to stay off the Prozac now. I am not sure if the withdrawal might come as more time passes or if the Wellbutrin is offsetting any side effects. Again, I feel better than ever.

Thank you!!

Brief Answer:
watchout for a week more & wellbutrin is good

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and it says that you have stopped taking prozac and are continuing with wellbutrin 300mg from past 2 weeks. And that you feel good now. You want to know if you may get some problems of withdrawal in near or late future due to this.

I think you need to know some important things-

1. Prozac should always be taken in morning till one can manage it. It may hinder sleep when taken at night. So, that was wrong till niw..but as you have stopped it is not an issue anymore..

2. Prozac has a long half life (longest); 7 days ...so, though you have no complaints of withdrawal presently, (we need to be cautious for a week more).

3. Wellbutrin is a good medicine. Taken in daytime only. However, check before raising it further...because it has a potential of giving seizures at dosage above 300mg (i.e.450mg). Other wisen if it suits someone (like its doing good to you), it is quite helpful.

4. Checking thyroid and vit. B12 will help further.

So, in a nut shell- just keep a check for a week more...I hope that there might not be any problems...
wellbutrin is good for you, but talk to your doctor if he wants to raise it!

Good luck and good day
