What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Mar 2015
Question: I had unprotected oral sex and protected sex with an escort in Canada a month ago. I a week later I started to have a burning sensation in my urthetha . My doctor tested me for chlamydia and gonorreah and did a urine culture test and everything came back normal and negative. Nothing that would suggest herpes either. He felt my prostate and he said it was inflamed so he have me all the meds for to treat gonnorrhea and chlamydia . He said these STD's may have caused prostatitis. For three weeks the pain went away and late last week it returned. I am bit worried what this burning/pain is being caused by if its not an STD. What would be your next steps.

Brief Answer:
Prostatic massage and examination of the prostatic fluid would help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

Unprotected oral sex carries a very low risk for transmission of STD/HIV.
Relapse of pain and burning sensation of urethra indicates inadequate treatment or partner not being treated.

If it is due to Prostatitis, then go for a prostatic massage and examine the prostatic fluid for presence of pus cells and culture and sensitivity test for STD and non- STD organisms. As per the outcome treatment has to be planned and to be continued for 2 weeks to achieve a total cure along with your sex partners.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for your reply. I had both urine STD cultures and bacterial cultures would that not show if there is any infection. I was only with this partner once and have refrained from sex since. What other stds can effect the uretha other than clhamydia /gonorrhea? And since my tests came back negative for those ones should I be tested for others? Would it be safe to have sex or continue refraining for the time being?

Thanks

Mycoplasma, ureaplasma can cause prostatitis

Hi,
Welcome back
Mycoplasma and ureaplasma are other possibilities. Repeat culture may be useful as some results were misleading.

Brief Answer:
Abstain from sex till get cured

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome back..
Herpes would have manifested already, if you have been infected. So not to worry about the same.
Sexual abstinence is preferable till you got relieved from prostatitis.

Brief Answer:
Protected sex offers a high degree of protection against STD/HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

As you had protected sex with an intact condom assures you that you had negligible risk for STD/HIV,almost nil. Your problems might not have any relation to STD.
