Posted on Tue, 26 Aug 2014
Question: Hi Doctor, I am a XXXXXXX man. I had unprotected oral with another man, he did not ejaculate in my mouth and the oral was very short (a minute maybe). However, after the sex I notice blood in my throat form trauma that the oral sex made. After three and a half weeks began feeling something uncomfortable in my armpits, the doctor palpate at almost 4 weeks and didn't feel anything but then the next day I was able to feel bumps in both armpits. Today is 5 weeks and I feel also swollen under my left ear. I am wonder if this sign of HIV ARS. But, I have no other symptom: no fever, no rash, no sore throat, I actually don't even feel bad. It just the lymph nodes. I had a recent check up before the encounter and all the tests were negative. Is HIV testing warranted?

Brief Answer:
Though chance of HIV are less, but not ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Though chance of HIV transmission are less, but not entirely ruled out.Rate transmission of HIV with oral sex is comparatively low.

Check out health/HIV status of partner if possible.

HIV is not likely to cause symptoms in three weeks, so this armpit bumps/nodes are not indicative of HIV and more likely due to some other cause.

Get retested for HIV.Some people may take upto six months to show positive test but most do test positive in three months.

Summary- These are surely not HIV related symptoms. You will to get retested.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.

Can I say that the absence of fever etc help me? That this is no seroconversion illness? This guy did not ejaculate in my mouth and I think he didn't have any pre seminal fluid because we were just starting. I am worried because I feel many nodes in my armpits. What other thing could cause this? If I don't have symptoms of any other symptoms of an infection

The guy told me that he didn't have any STDs when we had sex.

Brief Answer:
Doesn't sound like seroconversion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

In view of details and no other symptoms this does not indicate seroconversion.

Other important cause of such armpit bumps is thoracic infection or inflammation.Such nodes can be seen even in normal individuals as well.

Ultrasound can help to know if these are just prominent nodes or related to some disease.
