Posted on Mon, 24 Aug 2015
Question: A friend advised me to give dates chopped and soaked in honey for 7-10 days to my 26 months old daughter. She told me that it's a good immunity builder. Can someone please explain the benefits of this? I know that dates are good for haemoglobin formation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to HCM.

Yes natural honey has medicinal values for example it has antibacterial properties along with boosting up immunity. It is also has antiinflammatory properties hence suggested for cough along with tulsi leaves. Also dates are rich in iron, vitamins and minerals and fibres. Hence recommended for low Haemoglobin and intestinal problems.

However, honey is recommended in children only more than a year old as it contains Clostridium botulinum spores which can be harmful in infants as their digestive system is immature.

You can give maximum one teaspoon honey daily to 2yr old child not more than that.

Hope this answered your query.
