Brief Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX welcome to HCM.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX welcome to HCM. TSH is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain. It acts on the thyroid gland in the neck, causing it to secrete two hormones called T3 and T4. These hormones are responsible for controlling our metabolism. When the secretions are more we become like a hare--very fast. And when the secretions are low we become a tortoise--very slow.
When the thyroid gland functions slowly--T3 and T4 are low. Because they are low, the pituitary secretes more TSH to stimulate thyroid, and hence when thyroid functions slowly, TSH is high. We (our body functions) behave like tortoises. Conversely when thyroid hyperfunctions TSH is low and we behave like hares. Obviously it is not good to have too slow or too rapid body functions, so both are equally bad for health. Regards
