What are kidney sludge symptoms and how to get rid of the sludge

Hi ,
Thank you for your query.
Kidney slugde per se does not cause any problems.
The kidney sludge gradually accumulates to form small stones. These might cause symptoms when they block the passage of urine in the urinary tract.

The symptoms may be severe pain in the lower back and sides (called flank pain or renal colic),difficult and painful urination, blood in the urine, inability to urinate.

The measures you can take are:
DRINK WATER (At least 1.5-2 L /day).
Drink even more water any time you might become dehydrated -- in very hot weather, when dancing or exercising, if you've got diarrhea or if you've been vomiting.
And remember that alcohol and caffeine are dehydrating. That means that beverages which contain either of these not only don't count toward that fluid amount, they actually increase your need for the good fluids.
So drink up and dilute the possible harmful side effects of the medications on your kidneys(If any).
Consult an urologist if you have specific urinary problems.

If you have any further queries you are free to consult me.
Hope this answers your query.

Have a nice day.

is the flank pressure I feel normal with a lot of sludge but with no stone showing in the ultrasound? I have been living half the year in the middle east and drinking mostly coffee. With increased good fluid will this discomfort end and how long before it does?

You should experience flank pain and not mild pressure.
Please stop drinking coffee as soon as possible.
If the sludge is washed out with increased fluid intake then you should be OK.
It usually takes 4-5 months.

Is kidney sludge a sign of kidney desease?
Answered by Dr. Samik Basu 57 minutes later
It is not a disease of the kidney per se...but a disease of the urinary tract system.
It leads to kidney or ureteric stones.
