Question: Dear Doctor,
I recently had an ultrasound and was told I have a nice thin skinned uterus, but they see some crystals on my remaining one ovary. I had one removed 6 years ago due to dark brown color, but no cancer. I am 63 years old. What are crystals, should I be concerned?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

These are likely areas of "calcification". This is not unusual to see in various soft tissue structures over time. This is not what we would see with ovarian cancer. So this carries a low level of concern. In a typical patient with findings that seem slightly unusual like this, I would probably schedule a followup ultrasound in 6-8 weeks to see how stable these areas were over time.

I hope that this helps. Please ask if you have additional questions.

Recently I have developed a pain in my lower back with gas pain and bloating and pain on my lower right side. This increases before I urinate. I had a work-up a few days ago saw a gastro- xray showed alot of stool and maybe some liver swelling. I am in alot of pain that goes away throughout the day, but comes back about 1 hour after eating around belly button. Can you help? Coiuld this be an ovarian cyst? I am female 54 years old- had a hysterectomy and usually have good health except for a cervical disc & nerve problem and Hasimotos thyroiditis.

I am on bio-identical hormones and my testosterone level has gone from 62 to 247 in the last 8mos. My GYN has finally told me to stop the testosterone for a while. I ve been having abdominal pain and now lower/upper back pain for the past 3mos. Had ultrasound last wk and it came back showing uterus is anteverted, small hypoechoic foci likely respresents fibroids measuring 8mm. As well as a 1.5cm right ovarian cyst containing some internal debris and a 1.3cm simple left ovarian cyst. Can this be a result of the high testosterone? And is this something to be concerned about? And will these go away on their own?
