The best treatment for small size tumor without metastasis to lymph nodes is surgical resection of the tumor.
For large-sized cancer, without lymph node metastasis best treatment will be surgical resection and radiotherapy. Here part of the tongue also has to be removed.
For cancer with metastasis to lymph nodes or beyond that, best treatment will be surgical resection of cancer growth and chemotherapy after that.
So it's advisable to undergo staging of the tumor by PET scan or CT scan and then choose the best treatment accordingly.
