Trying To Conceive. On Isotretinoin For Pimples On Face. How Long It Takes To Clear Off From System?
Question: Hello,i have been on isotretinoin for a year now because i was having pimples,and my fiance wants us to having babies and i have decided to stop taking the drugs.i jave heard the drugs stays long in ones system.how long should i wait before i get pregnant?because i plan on stop taking the drugs from 9th of october 2012.my dermatologist sia after i stop i can wait one week before i resume my sexual life again,because she said by then the drugs would have left my system.but am not very convinced,my fiance wants me pregnant by november.thats why am seeking for more informations because i dont want to encounter any birth defects.your reply will be very helpful and useful.thanks

Isotretinoin has a half life of 21 hours. It will take it nearly six days to clear off from your system. After stopping taking the drug, it is best to start trying for conception from the next cycle so that the drug has no effect on your hormones or the ovulation.

Thanks Dr XXXXXXX for you reply,normally i do start my menstral flow by the 3rd week of every month.when i stop taking isotreninion by the 9th of october,can i start trying for conception on my next menstral flow which starts around 21--22 of this same october or should i wait for the coming month flow. and my cycles is not a 28day cycle its usual 25,26,27days,but they are regular each month,is there anything i should be worried about in the cycle not been 28 days and are my cycle days normal for a girl like me.thanks

The cycles can vary from 25-32 days in normal females. There is nothing to worry about it.

hello Dr,please i would like to know the days and period before and after ones menstral flow that its possible to concieve.i know about the ovulation period.i heard besides ovulation period there are some other days too.pls i would like to know.thanks
The best period to have intercourse for a successful conception is fertile period.
The first day of a period is considered as day 1. In a regular 28 day cycle, usually on day 14, the egg is released and is waiting for the sperm to fertilize it. The egg has a lifespan of just 12 to 24 hours whereas a sperm can last for about 72 hours in a woman. Sex on alternate days from day 10 till day 16 is the time that the woman has the highest chances for pregnancy.
Alternatively, in case of irregular cycles, you can use an LH surge kit to detect the highest levels of LH in your urine. Having sex for next two days consecutively after an LH surge will result in a successful conception.
If your cycles are regular, you can also predict the day of expected fertile interval. First, calculate the average length of your cycle, from the beginning of one period to the beginning of the next. Subtract 18 days from the total number in your cycle, and begin babymaking intercourse every other day for one week. So if your cycles are 30 days, subtract 18 to get 12. That means you have intercourse on days 12, 14, 16, and 18.
