Question: Tried nothing so far. Not a current solution available. But only looking for an abatement for balance and lack of coordination issues, increasing over the last 10-15 years. DNA blood test of 2014 confirm SCA3. Inherited from my mother. Dealing with arthritis issues at the same time.

Brief Answer:
I have found COENZYME Q and amantadine useful in some patients with SCA 3

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, the diagnosis is spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA 3). As you have mentioned, there is no cure for this. However, I have used COENZYME Q10 in some of my patients with good results. At a dose of 300 mg twice daily, the coordination, balance and walking improved. The benefits lasted for several months.

Amantadine is another medication that helps ataxia and incoordination. The usual dose in my patients ranged from 100 to 200 mg per day.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Regards,
Dr. Sudhir Kumar
