The following psychological instruments can be used:-

Mood disorders:
- Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI)
- Hamilton's Depression Rating Scale (HDRS)
- Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS)
- Bech-Rafaelsen Melancholia Scale (MES)

- Young Mania Ratig Scale (YMRS)
- Bech-Rafaelsen Mania Scale (MAS)

Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS)
Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS)

Personality assessment:
- Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
- 16PF Personality Questionnaire
- Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI)

Risk assessment for Suicide:
- Beck Hopelessness Scale
- Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale
- "SAD PERSONS" suicide assessment scale (very practical and easy to use)
