Suggest Ways To Wean Off Effexor
Question: Dr is weaning me off of effector 75 mg,then start taking Welbutrin.Will I have side effects if I don't take it.would like to get off antidepressants.been on 8 yrs for mild depression.

Effexor is SNRI drug. The drug doses should be weaned off gradually over 6-8 weeks to prevent its withdrawal effects. In most cases dose reduction of about 20-25% is advised every two weeks and should be stopped completely at about 6-8 weeks. Dose reduction in this manner doesn't cause much withdrawal symptoms.
Taking Wellbutrin would make the withdrawal easier. But alliteratively you can reduce gradually the dose of Effexor over about 6 weeks and this will not cause any side effects.
