Suggest Ways To Treat High Blood Pressure

Question: Hello Doctor, My dad has multiple conditions - diabetes, blood pressure, parkinson and had developed a clot in his right feet as well. He was prescribed a list of medicines and had to check his clot (DVT scan) and PTNR test every 15 days. He was using minipress excel for blood pressure earlier. Now, since past 3 months, he has arrived to Australia, and here during scan for clot they found NO more clots. So the dr. advised him to stop taking acitrom, but to continue with all other medicines. Since then his blood pressure is very high (200/75). I was wondering that Acitrom is a blood thinner and so is it possible that it's removal has caused an increase in blood pressure? He has now been added many other medicines to control the blood pressure (coversyl 10 mg, transnitrate patch and acetophyryll 25 mg) but none of them have helped to control the blood pressure. Please advise if we can add back acitrom to his list again to control the high blood pressure.

Restarting It will have no effect on BP control...

Hi XXXX!

I'm so sorry for the situation your father is in. Unfortunately Acitrom is a blood thinner and has no effect on lowering blood pressure. So restarting Acitrom will have no effect on stabilizing his BP.

If he was my patient i would probably add to existing therapy other pills such as:
- A beta blocker (in your father case i would recommend Nebivolol 5 mg)
- A Calcium channel blocker (in his case lercanidipin 10 mg)
- If the other will be insufficient to control his BP I would add more an alfa blocker (such as clonidine or aldomet).
