Suggest Ways To Stop Getting Menstruation Bleeding

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Oct 2014
Question: I wanted to stop getting my period; went to my Gyn & was put on Xulane patch - did it for 3 weeks. Put Ortho Evra on week 4 not realizing they're different (looking for continuous use). Week later, back to Xulane - 3 days after - got my period - which has now persisted for 11 days. I had horrific cramps last week & was switched to Ortho. I am still bleeding - no pain - do not know if I shold remove patch, start over or what.

I want to stop the current bleeding, of course. I really need to find a way to stop my periods altogether - between the cramps, 1 day w/ very heavy bleeding, I couldn't take it anymore. It prevented me from activities. I cannot do Depo (weight gain), am willing to try & stay on the Ortho patch if we think it will improve. I also saw a new med that ou take continuously & by design, you do not get a period - starts w/ a "L,"

Brief Answer:
LYBREL IS THE PILL. PATCH IS NOT EFFECTIVE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

What you are talking about NEW contraceptive pill is LYBREL most probably. This pill will completely stop a woman's period for a full year.

It contains 365 pills with 90 micro gm Levonorgestrel and 20 micro gram Ethinyl Estradiol (each one). It is classified as a LOW DOSE, CONTINUOUS, Non-cyclic combined oral contraceptive pill.

It should be taken regularly on scheduled time for 1 year continuously to cut off the regular period. It would be worthwhile in this situation.

I suggest you to take Tranexamic Acid group of drug to arrest current bleeding in combination with new hormonal pill. Patch is NOT effective in this case. You need a complete prescription from your doctor.

Kindly, consult with your GYNECOLOGIST regarding this and proceed complete check up including pelvic examination before starting NEW pill.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and take care yourself. Maintain genital hygiene properly.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
